Editor’s Note: America Is Going All-In on “Super Intelligence”

The U.S. government now calls AI “Super Intelligence,” or SI. Here’s what the September 29, 2026 executive order means — and why businesses should pay attention.

There is another major technology story unfolding alongside the launch of America.gov.

The United States government has officially begun using a new term for Artificial Intelligence: Super Intelligence, or SI.

On September 29, 2026, President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing executive departments and agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in official communications, websites, reports and other non-statutory government documents.

More than a name change

The administration has framed advanced intelligence technology as a global competition and has made maintaining U.S. leadership a national priority. During the America.gov launch, President Trump described the competition largely as one between the United States and China and said, “Whoever wins super intelligence wins.”

The White House says its strategy is designed to ensure that the United States “leads and wins in Super Intelligence,” pointing to investments in research, infrastructure, scientific applications and policies intended to accelerate American innovation.

Whether the term “Super Intelligence” becomes widely adopted outside of the federal government remains to be seen. What is clear is that the United States is signaling an aggressive push toward leadership in advanced intelligence technology—and America.gov gives the public one of its first highly visible examples of that strategy in action.

AI—or, as the federal government is now calling it, SI—is no longer simply a technology trend. It is becoming infrastructure. Businesses should pay close attention to how quickly search, government services, customer experiences and everyday digital interactions are being redesigned around conversational intelligence.
